The Vancouver Data Center Bootcamp, hosted by ElectroMentors on November 20–21, 2025, was a highly successful two-day in-person training event held at the BCIT Downtown Campus in Vancouver, Canada. The event brought together 70+ professionals and students from across the data center, power systems, and critical infrastructure communities.
The bootcamp was one of the first events of its kind in Vancouver, designed to take participants from fundamentals to future-ready solutions. Engineers, operators, consultants, utilities, researchers, and technology providers joined from across Canada to learn, connect, and exchange ideas around modern data center challenges.

Day 1 focused on Interconnection and System-Level Testing. The day started with networking and a welcome session, followed by technical discussions by Dr. Sam Maleki on data center electrical architecture and special power system studies, including system strength and short-circuit considerations.

In the afternoon, participants explored hardware-in-the-loop testing and how digital twins and real-time simulation are used to validate data center requirements and performance, instructed by Dr. Arman Ghasaei.

A highlight of Day 1 was the Gold Sponsor session delivered by OPAL-RT Technologies, which drew strong engagement and practical discussion from attendees.

Day 2 shifted the focus to Control Systems and Cybersecurity. The day opened with a keynote by Jose Marti, a distinguished professor from UBC, who spoke about the next generation of power systems and their impact on grid-connected data centers.

The technical sessions continued with advanced modeling of grid-forming inverters using EMT software tools, instructed by Dr. Abolfazl Babaei.

The next session was on Cybersecurity Requirements and Solutions for grid-connected Data Centers, instructed by Dr. Moein Manbachi, a topic that resonated strongly with the audience.

Another highlight of Day 2 was the Panel Discussion on “Data Center Interconnection Applications – From Idea to Impact.” The panel brought together experienced industry professionals who shared real-world perspectives on interconnection planning, technical challenges, and lessons learned from actual deployments. The discussion was highly engaging and sparked many follow-up conversations among attendees.

Networking played a central role throughout both days. Informal discussions during breakfast, lunch, and networking breaks allowed participants to build new connections, reconnect with peers, and explore collaboration opportunities across industry and academia.

The success of the Vancouver Data Center Bootcamp was made possible through the strong support of our sponsors. Gold Sponsors included OPAL-RT Technologies, PSCAD, PowerAI Lab (McMaster University), and EdgeTunePower. Silver Sponsors included Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL), RTDS Technologies, EMTP, and SPARC. Their contributions played a key role in creating a high-quality and impactful event.

At the end of Day 2, all attendees received a Certificate of Completion recognizing 10 PDH / 1 CEU, officially accredited by the Engineering Institute of Canada (EIC).
Overall, the Vancouver Data Center Bootcamp clearly demonstrated the growing demand for practical, industry-driven training in data center engineering, resilience, and cybersecurity.
Building on the success of this bootcamp, ElectroMentors is excited to announce that a larger Data Center Conference and Exhibition is coming to Toronto in Summer 2026! This upcoming event will expand beyond training to include a broader exhibition, more industry speakers, deeper technical tracks, and enhanced networking opportunities.
Stay tuned for updates, dates, and sponsorship opportunities for our Toronto Data Center Conference and Exhibition.
ElectroMentors looks forward to continuing this momentum and supporting the growing Power Engineering and Data Center communities across the globe.
