Title: Generator Health Monitoring – Partial Discharge and Other Diagnostic Tests

Course Hours: 8 hrs

Course Description:
This in-depth course provides participants with the essential knowledge and practical skills to assess generator health and participate in advanced diagnostic testing and overhaul procedures. The curriculum focuses on insulation aging analysis, off-line partial discharge (PD) testing and interpretation, and online condition monitoring techniques—aligned with international standards such as IEC 60034-27-1.

Participants will gain expertise in conducting routine electrical inspections and tests during generator overhaul periods, including RSO (Recurrent Surge Oscillograph), high-voltage tests, tan delta measurements, and more. The course bridges theory and practice using real-world case studies, multimedia materials, and field-proven methodologies for both rotor and stator components.

Key Topics Covered:

  • Generator insulation aging mechanisms and degradation assessment

  • Off-line partial discharge test setup, execution, and analysis

  • IEC 60034-27-1 standard review and practical application

  • Routine rotor and stator tests: RSO, high-voltage, tan delta, surge tests, etc.

  • Online condition monitoring techniques for predictive diagnostics

  • Visual inspection techniques and industrial endoscopy applications

  • Interpretation of diagnostic data and maintenance decision-making

Who Should Attend:
This course is designed for electrical engineers, maintenance professionals, and asset management specialists involved in generator condition monitoring, diagnostics, and overhaul supervision. It is ideal for those seeking to expand their expertise in generator life-cycle assessments and predictive maintenance.

Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand key mechanisms of insulation aging and its impact on generator health

  • Execute and interpret offline PD and tan delta testing for stator windings

  • Apply IEC 60034-27-1 guidelines to partial discharge testing and reporting

  • Conduct and supervise critical rotor/stator electrical tests during overhauls

  • Monitor online generator condition indicators and interpret early warning signs

  • Contribute to or oversee generator overhaul and maintenance planning

  • Analyze test results and prepare technical reports for informed decision-making

Instructor: Mostafa Farokhi (17+ years of hands-on experience in generator manufacturing companies and technical management of generator rewinding teams).
