Exploring Real-World Examples of Network Topologies & Related Impacts
Smart grid and microgrid communication architecture design both in green field and brown field applications involves a deep assessment of existing and connected IEDs, the DERs being integrated, the backbone communication infrastructure and upstream controllers and SCADA systems.
Stakeholder impacts will need to be assessed, and the behavioural aspects and criticality of the connected devices will need to be fully understood. Specifically, response times and redundancy requirements.
Key Areas that will be explored in the course include:
- Communication Architectures & Network Topologies
- Types of communication options available
- Communication protocols to be adopted
- Network protocols to be utilized
- Communication backbone hardware and software requirements
- IoT-based protocol requirements
- Protocol converters
- Comparative assessment of various solutions selected
- Control & monitoring requirements
In summary, this course will explore real-world architecture solutions selected and utilized, with justification of why these solutions were selected, pros and cons of each solution, followed by a deep dive exercise on architecture design for a particular situation.
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Have a good understanding of solution architecture requirements and
- Have the capability to design architecture solutions
- Understand stakeholder requirements and goals of a microgrid project.
Suited for: individuals in the utility sector as well as industry involved in communication design of energy systems.
-
All participants will gain access to digital course materials, which may include slide decks, reference guides, toolkits, and access to the session recording.
-
Upon successful completion, you will earn the ElectroMentors Certificate of Attendance.
-
No IEEE Certificate will be issued for on-demand courses.
-
